Steven and Tanja, Hotel Sonnengarten, Bavaria

This Summer I was lucky enough to be asked to shoot a wedding in Bavaria, Southern Germany for Steven and Tanja.

We flew out from Manchester and arrived in Munich a day before the wedding, before driving south to the picturesque town of Bad Worishofern. It's a beautiful place, typically Bavarian with a classy feel and lots of people enjoying Summer holidays in the area. We checked into the Hotel Sonnengarten and settled down to a huge beer and a plate of top notch local food.

On the day of the wedding, there was a wonderful atmosphere in the bridal suite as Tanja and her bridesmaids prepared for a massive day ahead.....while Steven and the boys enjoyed a beer or two downstairs. The weather was absolutely gorgeous, around 30 degrees, perfect for an outdoor wedding ceremony.

Tanja and Steven had officially married at a registration ceremony the day before, so they had enlisted the services of a friend, Felix, who would carry out the wedding ceremony in front of family and friends.... and what an amazing job he did, speaking in both English and German, so that nobody missed out on anything. The ceremony was certainly a highlight of the proceedings largely due to the personal touch provided by Felix.

After a wonderful confetti moment, I left the happy couple to soak up the moment and be congratulated by everyone, before we headed into a local park to shoot portraits. The afternoon lighting in the park, streaming through the high trees, was beautiful and really helped me to create our bride and groom portraits. We kept it fairly simple, using benches, fountains and natural light for our images. (it was WAY too hot to be hanging around in the park for a long time).

Steven and Tanja wanted me to shoot in a relaxed style, so after shooting a series of family portraits, that's exactly what I did, focusing on the candid moments happening throughout the day, and particularly on their young son Joey, who was running around in great spirits all day.

Guest were treated to a huge 5 (yes FIVE) course feast of traditional fayre while Best Man, Mark, edged closer and closer to his moment in the spotlight. If he was worried about his upcoming moment of public speaking, it certainly didn't show, as he brought the house down with his humorous and emotional words. Mark had flew over all the way from Australia to be there for Steven and his words echoed the obvious sentiment shared between these two cousins.

Immediately after the speeches, Tanja and Steven were invited outside to partake in a Bavarian wedding day custom. The married couple were challenged to show the world their team working skills, by sawing through a log.... which they managed admirably!

The remainder of the evening consisted of plenty of drinking, laughter and dancing, with the English and German contingents in a serious mood to party and celebrate. I remember finally hitting my pillow late into the evening and being out for the count until my alarm for the flight home the following morning.

This was a brilliant experience and a fantastic wedding to be a part of. Steven and Tanja are a great couple with family and friends in every corner of the world who care for them dearly. Its easy to see why they are so well thought of, you really couldn't ask for two nicer people!

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to shoot for you, I absolutely loved every minute! Looking forward to seeing you both later this year. Let me take this opportunity to wish you many years of happiness together xxx
