Welcome to Michael Cartwright Photography.

For me, photography has always been about more than making images. It’s about experiencing places.

From the North East coastline to the mountains of the Lake District, from the streets of Europe to the quiet details many people pass by, I’m drawn to atmosphere, changing light and the moments that give a location its character.

While landscape photography remains a huge part of my work, my approach goes far beyond a single genre. Coastlines, cities, markets, textures, people and place all inspire the way I see and photograph the world.

I run small-group photography workshops across the UK and overseas, including the Lake District, Yorkshire, Northumberland, Scotland, Venice and Southern Spain.

These workshops are designed for photographers of all levels who want to build confidence, improve technique and develop a more creative eye, all while exploring memorable locations.

With over a decade of professional experience, my background also includes commissions, teaching, photographing hundreds of weddings, running Yarm Studio, and collaborating with Fotovue on the upcoming guidebook Explore & Discover the North York Moors & Coast.
