Enjoy two days of wonderful cityscapes, street photography, architecture and low light photography in one of the the worlds most photogenic cities.

Liverpool is a place brimming with culture and beautiful architecture. Grand buildings sit proud against the tidal waters of the Mersey. Much of the dockland areas have been transformed into picturesque parades that will be excellent for photography. Our conveniently situated hotel in the center of the financial district gives us easy access to the best that this city has to offer.

We'll be taking in the classic locations such as Albert Dock, the Liver Building, the Anglican Cathedral and the Cavern Quarter over two days of exploration.

Our accommodation benefits from being right in the heart of town, just moments away from the iconic photography locations. We generally stay out late and rise early to make the most out of our time in the city. Many of our images will be taken under the cover of darkness, illuminated by artificial light from buildings and traffic.

After shooting the city at night, we will retire to our rooms (via a nearby restaurant) before an early start to shoot a sunrise and another full day creating images.

This is our third trip to Liverpool and it's a great city for photographers.... LIVERPOOL BLOG 2022

TRAVEL

Includes return rail tickets from DARLINGTON to LIVERPOOL. All other transport costs are not included. Train times TBC. If you are travelling from an alternative station please email me and I will arrange travel for you.

ITINERARY

The itinerary will include classic Liverpool locations alongside off the beaten track gems. We will also explore areas of cultural and artistic interest scattered throughout the city. There are a huge range of options available to us and by working in a small group we can adapt our plans to suit individual requests. A full itinerary will be planned closer to the time which will be subject to change as required. A flexible approach is always best when shooting on location as we are always at the mercy of weather, lighting and local conditions. I'm expecting good street photography opportunities and plenty of long exposures by the water.

ASSISTANCE

As ever, I will be on hand to offer tips and guidance as required. My sessions are friendly and relaxed while shooting in a group provides safety, support and enjoyable company! If you have any questions on technique or ability level please contact me via email.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Suitable for intermediate to experienced photographers with a basic knowledge of semi-auto and manual settings.

A good level of walking fitness is advised to ensure your enjoyment and the enjoyment of others. While the exertion level will not be strenuous, we will be up early and out late, covering a large area with plenty of breaks in-between. Good walking shoes are a must!

KIT SUGGESTIONS

We will be spending lots of time walking around a very busy city. My recommendation is to travel light, you probably don't need that heavy 600mm lens!

For street photography 35mm is optimal. A zoom lens that features 35mm would be a great option (for example, a 24-70mm lens would work well for wide angle shots alongside street photography images).

A lightweight telephoto zoom lens will also be useful, particularly for reducing clutter and focusing your compositions on a specific area. The ideal range would be between 70-300mm. This will be good for close up shots of the Liver Building.

Tripod - A sturdy travel tripod is highly advised. A tripod will become essential after sunset and this time of the day has the potential to be our most productive. As we will be exploring the city for the full day and you will be carrying kit, a lightweight tripod is preferable. Ensure that the tripod has sufficient strength to carry your camera with its heaviest lens attached.

I highly advise bringing a polarising filter and long exposure filters for shots by the water. ND grads may be useful if we are blessed with great sunset/sunrise light.

Night time shots will not require filters.

Testimonials

I have just returned from a trip to the Arctic Circle arranged by Michael. The best I can say is that this was a trip of a life time! The tour was friendly with lots of laughs. Michael, Scott & Joe passed on their knowledge freely. Nobody was left out, there was something for everyone to do and along with the photo opportunities we had great fun on snowmobiles at midnight on a frozen river going from Finland to Sweden, a dog sled ride through a frozen forest , reindeer sled ride and so much more.
Would I recommend Michael Cartwright Photography?? Hell yes!! A trip I will never forget & many new friends made.

Over the last 18 months I have been on a number of courses, workshops and photography holidays with Michael Cartwright and his team Scott Bonner and Joe Fletcher. Over that time my photography skills have really improved with their generous and friendly help and support. I have learned so much and met some great people along the way. The latest holiday in Arctic Finland / Sweden has been the icing on the cake. Well organised from start to finish with a range of activities and challenges. It was the most wonderful experience and I have some photographs that I really like. Huge thank you to the team and I can wholly recommend Michael Cartwright Photography!

Michael has a unique ability to take complicated subject matter and deliver it in a simple, passionate and infectious manner. He has taken me on a journey with his workshops from ‘extreme novice’ that was absolutely clueless to a confident enthusiast. I will be eternally grateful for all of Michael’s efforts in going the extra mile throughout my learning journey. He is a credit to his profession and he sets the standards for the rest of his industry to follow. Oh, and he is a thoroughly likeable chap too!

Great weekend away and I’m really pleased with my photographs! Thanks for a fantastic workshop, everything was first class, including the hotel, the food and the weather! I really enjoyed learning about different ways to compose my photos for a more professional feel. The workshop was well planned and was extremely informative and interesting. The fact that Michael kept a close eye on everybody's progress was an extra bonus. Thanks Michael

Both myself and my husband have been friends of Michael's for many years now during which time we have been on numerous photography trips with him!

We have thoroughly enjoyed every single trip from the Lake District, Paris, Budapest but my absolute favourite was the trip to Finland, we may not have been lucky enough to see the Northern Lights but what a fantastic adventure it turned out to be!! Each trip has been made extra special with the fabulous group of people that we have had the pleasure of making friends with, aside from that there is of course the excellent opportunity to take some amazing photographs of simply stunning scenery and architecture. The trips are always well organised and thoroughly thought through from beginning to end, as well as coming away with some truly amazing photos you will for sure meet some lovely people and make fantastic memories......

I  attended my first camera course as a complete beginner, I didn’t even know how to turn the camera on! The initial course was perfect for me, very well explained throughout and left me wanting to know more. Michael and the team are brilliant teachers, they are all very patient and we have a lot of laughs along the way. Since learning how to use my camera I have progressed on to landscape workshops and now class myself as being very confident with my kit. I’ve joined Michael on many occassions and would definitely recommend these workshops!
